This is the second book that I borrowed from a friend of mine. Truth be told, I picked up this book from his shelf because of the title and the author. I’ve heard about James Patterson before being a great author so I wanted to test if he’s greatness is my cup of tea. The result?

I seriously love this book and James Patterson!!! I can’t even describe what I’m feeling right now! I’m still having the aftermath of the book. I don’t know how to start my review! My mind is screaming! Gosh!

Okay. I’ll start now.

I’m not new with the genre of the book. I’ve read a few mystery thrillers before and even medical thrillers. But I’ve never read a mystery thriller and a medical thriller in one book. Never! So this is way too shocking for me. Lol.

While I was reading it, I felt that it’s really a good book. I couldn’t put it down that I made it to the books 20^th plus chapter on my first few hours. And by the time it’s almost twenty-four hours, I’m also half-way through the book. Seriously! I can’t –it’s really a good book. I don’t know how to put the greatness of it in words! I am seriously having a hard time reviewing it because the parts where all the mysteries were solved still kept repeating inside my head.

The book has two mystery cases that need to be solved. The first one was an easy one because they captured the suspect immediately and was put behind bars. The best mystery is the second case. The case that deals with suspicious deaths at San Francisco Municipal Hospital. Though somehow I knew that the main mystery is the second case. And man was I right!

I seriously loved the book. It made me feel emotions I didn’t expect to feel towards any book. I was having adrenaline rush while reading this book and it doesn’t even have any action scenes! I know, it was that good. Truth be told I expected this to be not so good because it’s an old book. And I don’t really read a lot of old books because, well, they’re old. So I’m a bit judgmental on that part but hey, I was way too wrong with that. Old books have real magic. I know that now. They hug their genre like a human skin. Old books stand justice to their genre and to the praises put inside them. I appreciate old books more now.

You know that moment where you thought you got the books story all figured out so you started creating conclusions and deductions in your mind saying you know what’s gonna happen next to the story but then you’re only right on the 10% of what you figured out and wrong on the rest? Yes, that kind of moment. I felt it in this book. The part where I thought there were only two mystery cases in the book only to find out that there were actually three mystery cases! And I was like,

And then the part where everything got revealed to the readers, I was seriously reading it slowly to check if some of my conclusions were right. There were little! I love this part though, the part where everything got revealed. It was exciting to know who were the killers, how’d they do it, and when. Though my very very favorite chapter in this book is the epilogue, the unfinished business. I really thought they got the right guy on the second mystery case but then no. There was still a third case and it was solved on the epilogue. Amazing!

I also love the characters of the story. It has four women protagonists. Talk about girl power! The Chronicle reporter, Cindy; the lawyer turned Assistant District Attorney, Yuki Castellano; the medical examiner, Claire; and the very main protagonist, Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer. Dude, this girls are badass! Not the badass who-kicks-ass type but the badass who-catch-bad-guys-by-the-book type. They were really great characters. They all have different works, mostly has busy schedules but they still find time to hang out with each other. Their friendship is inspiring.

I love the other characters too. The supporting ones who helped the main characters solved the mysteries up to the end of the book. Though I love the villains’ characters more. Sure I hated their personality because they are criminals but I love how they concealed their true colors all throughout the book. They are very good bad guys.

I want to put a review with spoilers but I can’t. Because if I will, surely it will be long and I may not even stop typing it. So I’ll just put this review instead. I think you already know the rate of this book and the reason behind it.
